Crystals as Art Competition

A "Crystals as Art" competition will be held, which is open to all registered delegates.

Prizes are set at:
1st Place = £100
Runner up = £50
as well as a certificate for the winner that is presented during the conference dinner.

Submission deadline: Monday 19th June, 2017

Competition guidelines:

  • You must be registered for the 2016 BACG Annual Conference and must attend the meeting to participate.
  • Images should be related to crystals and/or crystallisation. As "Crystals as Art", aesthetic aspects rather than scientific quality will be the key elements in the competition.
  • Only one submission per contestant will be considered.
  • Images obtained by any imaging technique are allowed; multiple images can be combined into one composite image, image manipulation is explicitly allowed.
  • All images are to be submitted as a high resolution jpeg/tiff file of at least 300 dpi before 19th June 2017.
  • A shortlist of 10 images would be selected by the meeting committee; the finalists need to bring their own printed images to the meeting for exhibition at the meeting and will be judged by all attendees.
  • Format: all submitted images must include a title, a short description of the technique used, the object that was imaged and any special conditions. In addition, the submitter's name and email address must be given. If selected as a finalist, the image and caption (24-point size) should be made ready for mounting on a sturdy backing board at the meeting.
  • Do not frame your image!
  • The overall dimensions should not exceed A3 in size.
  • Please contact thomas.vetter@manchester.ac.uk with any questions regarding your submission.
